Carlo Mollino

As an artist Carlo Mollino was fortunate enough to be free from financial constraints.  This allowed Mollino to move freely from one interest to another.  My identity for the Carlo Mollino exhibit was designed around seven of Mollino’s unique interests—architecture, polaroids, writing, spacial, aviation, automotive and skiing.

The exhibit space is designed like a wheel with seven spokes—entering one room will lead to a particular Mollino interest, passing through that exhibit will lead to the axis at the center of the wheel and allow access to the other six portions of the exhibit.

I used the golden section rectangle to create harmony in portion and composition within the varying interests of Mollino. Conceptually, I wanted to show how the forms of Mollino’s different interests were often inspired by aspects of another interest. Mollino’s architecture, for example, is influenced by skiing, aviation and automotive design.
